Tyler is a passionate employment law solicitor who has developed extensive experience across the full range of employment law matters, including advice on workplace change and restructuring, employment contracts, termination, and unfair dismissal actions, adverse action claims, preserving confidential information and intellectual property, enforcement of post-employment restrictive covenants, anti-discrimination actions, workplace health and safety and, workplace related advice, policy development and litigation.

Tyler enjoys working closely with employers to resolve issues in a practical and pragmatic manner and is uniquely placed to understand employers' commercial interests, having worked in-house as an employee relations practitioner at Australasia’s largest retail fashion group and at a large transport organisation.

Experience

  • Advising clients on all matters arising under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), state and territory industrial legislation and, the modern award system.
  • Advising and defending employers in discrimination, unfair dismissal, general protections and, wrongful dismissal claims.
  • Assisting employers in the management of long term ill and injured employees and ensuring compliance with obligations under equal opportunity, occupational health and safety, and workers’ compensation laws.
  • Appearing on behalf of clients in the Fair Work Commission, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, Federal Court, Local Court of NSW, Magistrates Court of Victoria, Australian Human Rights Commission, Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission for conciliations, mediations and pre-hearing review.
  • Managing and assisting clients in conducting sensitive workplace investigations into misconduct.
  • Negotiating settlements to resolve disputes and litigated matters, including preparing deeds of separation and release.
  • Assisting in planning, negotiating and implementing enterprise bargaining strategies and agreements in a heavily unionised workforce for a large transport organisation.
  • Assisting in the establishment of a standalone employee relations service for Australasia’s largest retail fashion group.
  • Provided advice, guidance and support on behalf of Australasia’s largest retail fashion group to managers/supervisors across Australia and New Zealand on employee relations matters that aligned with business strategies and shared values.
  • Previously sole employee relations practitioner for the state of NSW for a large transport organisation. Responsible for the provision of employee relations services for 2,200 employees across 11 different sites across regional and metropolitan NSW.
  • Undertook complex workplace investigations as an employee relations practitioner relating to misconduct, bullying, and workplace harassment, serious disciplinary matters, grievances, discrimination, and worker’s compensation issues.
