Nick is a commercial litigation lawyer based in Melbourne. He acts for corporate, government and private clients in commercial disputes before the State and Federal courts. He also has international commercial arbitration and mediation experience. Nick has a general commercial litigation practice, which includes contractual disputes, director and shareholder disputes, building and property, and insolvency matters.

Prior to joining Russell Kennedy, Nick was a government lawyer at the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet for two years. He has experience in constitutional law, administrative law, Royal Commissions and inquiries, freedom of information, and privacy.

Nick was Aide to the 29th Governor of Victoria and a Maritime Warfare Officer in the Royal Australian Navy.

Experience

  • Acting for a US client in the IT sector defending a $40 million breach of contract claim in an international arbitration seated in Melbourne and a related Supreme Court proceeding.
  • Acting for a private client in a Federal Court proceeding involving a restraint of trade and alleged breaches of the Fair Work Act. We successfully negotiated a settlement between the parties following pre-trial mediation.
  • Acting for an NDIS service provider defending claims for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duties in the County Court.
  • Acting for a private client in an owners’ corporation dispute before VCAT concerning the use of common property.
  • Acting for a pro bono client in an insurance claim against a motor vehicle towing and transport company.
