Social and Community Services

Russell Kennedy supports social and community services organisations with expert advice and a genuine understanding of their needs and issues.

As a trusted legal advisor, we play a vital role in supporting and advocating for the disadvantaged and vulnerable in our community, whether they be people with a disability, with special health and support needs, or the young and the elderly.

Our experienced team support social and community services organisations, whether secular or faith-based, that provide health and community services, social services, aged and residential care, disability services for both not-for-profit and for-profit organisations.

Our people take the time to understand the unique challenges and needs of our social and community services clients who benefit from our knowledge across Russell Kennedy’s sectors of focus. Particularly in these times of great uncertainty due to COVID-19, the work of social and community services organisations has never been more important in the community. Our lawyers have strong sector experience enabling our team to guide our clients through each step of the process.

Several of our Principals are on the Boards of organisations in this sector, and have a deeper understanding of the challenges they face.

We support our clients across a wide range of issues including governance, regulatory compliance, corporate advisory services, funding and other commercial agreements, property and leasing advice, mergers and acquisitions, IP and IT services, government initiatives, employment law and workplace health and safety issues, liquidity and debt management challenges, licensing and accreditation as well as dispute resolution matters.

Russell Kennedy maintains longstanding relationships with peak national industry bodies including the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA), Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA), Leading Age Services Australia (LASA), National Disability Services (NDS) and Better Boards. Our team deliver seminars and webinars on topics impacting the social and community health sector. Members of our team sit on various health and aged care sector boards and advisory committees and often engage with regulatory agencies.

Principals Michael Gorton AMAnita Courtney and Victor Harcourt have been recognised by Best Lawyers in Australia for their health and aged care expertise.
