Russell Kennedy has continued the growth of its Sydney office with the appointment of new principals Nick Finlayson and Dermott Lynch.

With more than 20 years’ experience, Nick Finlayson joins the firm’s Property & Development team from KPMG Law, where he led the real estate and construction practice in Australia. Prior to this, he was partner at Bird & Bird and Truman Hoyle Lawyers. Throughout his career, Nick has acted for Australian and foreign companies. He has been involved in some of Australia’s largest property transactions, numerous national infrastructure projects and has significant expertise advising foreign companies that have chosen to invest in Australia.

“I am thrilled to be joining Russell Kennedy. I appreciate the firm’s client-centric approach and the care it shows its people. I look forward to collaborating with new colleagues to drive the development and success of the Property & Development practice in Sydney,” said Nick.

Practice group leader, Mark McKinley, is delighted with the appointment and says, “Nick is widely recognised as a leading property lawyer. He brings a wealth of experience to our growing team, adding depth in areas such as sales and acquisitions, development, design and construction, asset structuring and leasing. We know he will be a key adviser to our clients and a mentor to our people.”

Bolstering the firm’s Corporate & Commercial team is Dermott Lynch, who joins from East Super where he was Founder, CEO and General Counsel. Prior to this, he was a partner at Gadens. Over the course of his 25-year career, Dermott has worked as a commercial lawyer, corporate advisor and business owner. He has acted for clients in Australia, the UK and the US, creating legal structures, drafting corresponding documents and other legal instruments, developing business plans, and playing a key role in the execution of these plans in each of those jurisdictions.

“Dermott is an accomplished senior lawyer who specialises in all aspects of commercial law and litigation matters, acting for banking, investment and private equity clients both locally and abroad. His appointment further strengthens our corporate and commercial offering in Sydney, allowing us to deliver the best outcomes for our clients,” said practice group leader, Rohan Harris.

“It is an exciting time to be joining Russell Kennedy, a firm with a rich history, committed to growing its commercial offering. I look forward to providing exceptional service to our clients with industry-leading colleagues,” said Dermott.

As a firm, Russell Kennedy remains committed to its growth agenda, enhancing and facilitating opportunities for its clients, now and into the future. The firm continues to expand in a commercial environment, which has delivered significant challenges and opportunities for law firms in recent years.

“Hiring Nick and Dermott demonstrates the firm’s commitment to expand and enhance our client service offering by recruiting top calibre talent. This represents yet another important step in our evolution,” said Managing Director, Paul Gleeson.

This follows the appointment of Property & Development principal, Stella Wild, who joined Russell Kennedy’s Melbourne office from Maddocks in February.
