Sophie is committed to helping clients achieve strategic and commercial outcomes, which includes managing financial, legal and reputational risk when dealing with legal issues. Sophie works closely with Principals and senior lawyers at Russell Kennedy to support our clients in a range of employment, workplace relations, industrial relations and discrimination matters across a diverse range of industries, including education, local government, social and community services and health.

Experience

  • Advising on general employment and industrial relations issues including the management of employee performance, conduct, workplace investigations and dismissals
  • Acting for clients in various claims relating to employment including unfair dismissals, general protections, discrimination and bullying
  • Drafting and advising clients on contracts of employment, workplace policies and the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth)
  • Acting for clients on equal opportunity matters including sexual harassment and discrimination claims
  • Advising clients on disciplinary matters, redundancy processes and dealing with ill and injured workers
  • Advising clients on the employment aspects of mergers and acquisitions
  • Interpreting and drafting enterprise agreements and assisting clients with employment law compliance
  • Interpreting and advising clients in relation to rights and obligations in enterprise agreements and modern awards
  • Assisting independent schools across Australia on managing student and parent relationships, and eliminating the risk of child abuse (including by managing mandatory reporting obligations, and appropriately responding to allegations)
  • Assisting independent schools with managing staff, including upholding expected standards of behaviour and performance, responding to complaints and defending legal claims brought by employees
