Layal has a strong background in insurance and workers’ compensation litigation. She has advised and defended a wide range of workers’ compensation claims including both statutory and common law matters, from initial notification of injury through to representing clients in the Personal Injury Commission and District Court of NSW.

Experience

  • Layal was admitted as a solicitor in NSW in 2017. Her experience includes acting for insurers, NSW WorkCover scheme agents, NSW government agencies, and a variety of commercial clients in personal injury liability and WorkCover claims. Layal achieved effective resolution of contentious disputes, specialising in complex psychological injury claims involving NSW Government front line workers, commutations and fatality claims.
  • Layal has provided education and training to insurer clients and employers in respect of dispute resolution pathways and managing psychological injuries in the workplace.
  • She has also worked inhouse as Legal Counsel at Reinsurance Group of America, advising on claims management and claims risk assessment as well as management of non-litigated TPD, income protection, death, trauma and related claims. Layal managed disputed claims on reinsured policies, policy interpretation, supporting audit initiatives and reviewing contracts, such as non-disclosure and vendor agreements.
  • Layal is a strong advocate in matters before the Personal Injury Commission and the District and Supreme Courts of NSW, representing clients in teleconferences, conciliation/arbitrations, informal settlement conferences, mediations and directions hearings.
  • Based in our NSW office, Layal is a trusted advisor to insurer clients and is dedicated to building strong, long-term relationships with her clients.
