Jimi Muirhead has over 4 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector. He has practiced since 2020, specialising in administrative law and related processes. Jimi’s experience includes advising on all stages of the refugee status determination process and has related experience in detention releases, visa cancellation work and habeas corpus matters.

Jimi brings previous experience providing legal advice and representation to survivors of childhood abuse and the Stolen Generations and maintains a focus on trauma-informed and culturally sensitive practice.

Experience

  • Acting in public interest and strategic litigation in the Federal Circuit & Family Court of Australia and the Federal Court of Australia.
  • Representing refugees and asylum seekers at the Department of Home Affairs and Administrative Review Tribunal, with a particular focus on complex claims.
  • Detention advocacy work involving multiple detention releases, including via habeas corpus and Ministerial intervention.
  • Advising and representing survivors of institutional abuse, with a focus on advocating for those subject to Guardianship & Administration Orders.
