Session 1: Cybersecurity Law for Government – Navigating a High-Stakes Regulatory Landscape

Government agencies face a complex and overlapping set of cyber-related legal obligations. This session provides a practical guide to the key statutory frameworks applicable in Victoria – including the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), the Victorian Protective Data Security Framework, the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act 2018 (Cth), and the Cyber Security Act 2024 (Cth) – explaining the criteria for coverage under each regime and the practical steps lawyers need to take where their agency falls within scope, including in relation to incident reporting, procurement, and supply chain risk.
Session 2: Artificial Intelligence - Reframing the "A" in AI through the Lens of Legal and Reputational Risk

In the rapidly evolving technological environment that is AI, this session approaches the legal and reputational challenges through the lens of Accuracy, Awareness, Authenticity, Accountability, Acumen and Adaptability. Practical guidance will assist lawyers and decision-makers to conceptualise and address key AI considerations.
Marika will also focus on the Amplification of pseudo-legal AI-generated communications and associated volume, complexity, and escalation. A risk-based prioritisation framework will enhance skills in response control, and reporting and referral pathways.
