Who should attend

Legal professionals, including solicitors and barristers, who may aspire to be appointed to the judiciary one day and/or are interested in expanding their professional networks. Women and allies are welcome.

The Russell Kennedy Women's Network (RKWN) warmly invites you to an evening with Her Honour Judge Elizabeth Gaynor

Recently retired from the County Court of Victoria on 27 August 2025, Her Honour will join us for a special fireside chat, moderated by Sarah Manly, Principal at Russell Kennedy and member of the RKWN Executive Committee.

In this relaxed and insightful discussion, Her Honour will reflect on her distinguished career in the legal profession and share her perspectives on leadership in the law, gender equality, and the challenges faced by women in litigation. Known for her candid and fearless views, this promises to be a thought-provoking and engaging conversation.

Following the fireside chat, guests will have the opportunity to network with peers and colleagues.

Her Honour Judge Elizabeth Gaynor

Prior to her appointment to the County Court of Victoria in 2002, Her Honour built a diverse and distinguished career. She began as a journalist, later working as a duty solicitor with Victoria Legal Aid before coming to the Bar in 1985. As a barrister, Her Honour developed an extensive criminal defence practice, appearing in trials involving murder, attempted murder, serious assaults, sexual offences, blackmail, kidnapping, arson, drug importation and trafficking, burglary, theft, and financial deception. She also served as Assistant Convenor of the Women Barristers Association.

During her time on the bench, Her Honour presided over a broad range of criminal matters and was known for her commitment to rehabilitative justice, her advocacy for transparency between the courts and the media, and for overseeing Victoria’s first judge-only criminal trial during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her Honour’s career reflects a fearless dedication to justice and a deep commitment to advancing gender equality in the legal profession.
